Quality, Certification and Factory Audit

Steel Grades and Wall Thickness: What Actually Changes on Site

Scaffolding that looks identical in a photograph can behave very differently under load. Three variables decide how a system performs: the steel grade of the tube, the wall thickness, and the galvanizing class. They are specified separately, they are quoted separately, and all three are confirmed on the Mill Test Certificate.

• Q235 — the standard structural carbon steel for access scaffolding, used for tubes, frames, ledgers and boards where the governing standard is BS 1139, EN 39 or GOST 27321-87.
• Q345 — a higher-yield grade used where the same tube section has to carry more load, which is common on Ringlock standards and heavy-duty industrial work.
• Q355B — specified for structures with higher strength requirements; the grade is confirmed per heat on the certificate rather than assumed from the drawing.

Wall thickness is the second variable. Our scaffolding tube is supplied at 48.3 mm outside diameter with wall thickness in the 3.0–3.5 mm range on standard access systems. Wall thickness is not an upgrade that can be added later: it changes the weight per metre, and therefore the tonnage and the container count for the same facade area. The wall thickness has to be fixed together with the load class, not chosen afterwards to fit a budget.

The galvanizing class determines service life rather than load capacity. Hot-dip galvanizing to EN ISO 1461 is applied across our scaffolding range and the coating weight is documented per batch, so the finish on the tenth rental cycle can be checked against the finish on the first. Electro-galvanized or painted components look acceptable on delivery and then corrode quickly once they are used outdoors.

Lead Times: How the Calendar Is Actually Built

A production window of 15–25 days after specification confirmation is a manufacturing figure, not a delivery date. Between the deposit and the arrival of the container at the destination port there are four distinct phases, and only the first two are under our control.

The practical consequence is that the fastest way to shorten the total is to shorten the first phase. A specification that arrives complete — standard, grade, dimensions, quantities, coating class and destination port — can be calculated and released to production in the same week. A specification that is clarified over several rounds of email loses more calendar time than any production improvement can recover, and the delay lands on the site programme rather than on the factory.

How Container Loading Affects Your Tonnage

Scaffolding is quoted per tonne but shipped per container, and the two units do not convert freely. Packaged scaffolding loads to roughly 15 tonnes in a 40HC container, which corresponds to approximately 600–750 m² of scaffolding depending on the system and the deck width. A set that weighs 24 tonnes therefore does not fit one container: a second container is opened, paid for, and shipped partly empty.

This is why the loading plan is calculated before the order is placed rather than after. Components are nested so that container volume is used up rather than the weight limit being reached, and where a project falls close to a container boundary we present both options — trimming the set to load into fewer containers, or accepting a part-loaded container — so the trade-off is visible while it can still be decided.

Documents, Inspection and Payment Protection

For an importer the documentation package matters as much as the product. Every shipment is issued with a Mill Test Certificate per EN 10204 3.1 that traces each component back to its heat number, together with the packing list, the certificate of origin and the galvanizing records. Where a project requires it, EAC and GOST documentation is prepared for customs clearance in the EAEU.

Independent inspection is the strongest protection on a first order, because it happens at the factory while the goods are still under our control and before the balance payment falls due.
