Galvanized Steel Pipe Delivery to Russia — Logistics, Documents and Lead Times
Galvanized steel pipe is one of the most frequently imported steel products in Russia and Central Asia: it is used for water supply risers, heating systems, greenhouses, fences, scaffolding and fire protection networks. This guide explains how to select a reliable supplier of hot-dip galvanized pipe from China — grades, zinc coating classes, EN and GOST standards, MOQ, pricing and delivery to St. Petersburg and Novorossiysk.

Why the supplier verification matters more than the price
Galvanized pipe is defined by two things that cannot be seen on a photo: the mass of the zinc coating and the adhesion of that coating to the steel. A pipe with 120 g/m² instead of the ordered 275 g/m² will look identical in the container but will fail in service within months. A direct factory supplier with its own HDG line can document coating mass per ISO 1461, run bend and Preece tests, and issue EN 10204 3.1 certificates with heat numbers. When you buy from an intermediary, you cannot verify any of this.
Key specification parameters
When requesting a quote, specify four parameters: the standard (ASTM A53, BS 1387, EN 10219 or GOST 3262), the steel grade (Q195–Q345, A53 Gr.B or St1–St3 for GOST), the size range (from 1/2″ to 12″, wall thickness 0.6–16 mm), and the zinc coating class (typically 170–220 g/m² for general use, 220–350 g/m² for water supply and outdoor use, 400–500 g/m² for aggressive and coastal environments). Also state whether you need plain ends, threaded and coupled ends (NPT or BSP), or grooved ends for mechanical couplings.
GOST 3262 — the standard your quality department will check
For the Russian market, GOST 3262 covers water and gas pipes from St1–St3 steels in the same size range as the international series — DN15 to DN150, 6 m lengths. A competent supplier maps international grades to the GOST series and issues certificates referencing both standards. This single step eliminates the most common customs and quality-department delays. For Kazakhstan, certificates should reference GOST K equivalents; for Uzbekistan, GOST Uz — confirm the applicable national standard with your broker.
Hot-dip galvanizing vs pre-galvanized pipe
Understand the difference before ordering. Pre-galvanized (inline) pipe is formed and welded from a galvanized coil — the coating is thin and uniform, suitable for interior and light structures. Hot-dip galvanized (HDG) pipe is pickled, fluxed and dipped into molten zinc at about 450 °C, forming a metallurgically bonded coating of 45–120 µm (170–350 g/m² and up to 500 g/m² on request). For water supply, outdoor structures and fire systems, HDG is the correct specification; the zinc protects the pipe from internal corrosion and condensate.
MOQ, pricing and payment
MOQ is typically 25 tonnes per size for full-container orders. Distributors consolidate several sizes in one container; smaller trial batches are available for the first order. Payment terms: T/T (30% prepayment, 70% against documents), L/C at sight or D/P. Regular buyers receive supply programs with prices fixed for the contract period — this protects the project budget from market swings. Quotes are provided FOB Tianjin/Xingang, CFR/CIF to the destination port or DAP to your warehouse.
Delivery to Russia and Central Asia
Sea freight to St. Petersburg, Novorossiysk, Vladivostok and Baltic ports takes 30–45 days. Rail container trains through Dostyk and Khorgos reach Almaty, Astana, Tashkent, Bishkek, Dushanbe and Ashgabat in 25–40 days. Pipes are bundled in hexagonal packs with steel strapping; threaded pipes ship with couplings and protective caps on both ends. For coastal destinations, moisture-resistant wrapping protects against white rust during sea transit.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Z100 and Z275 zinc coating?
Z275 is 275 g/m² of zinc on both sides combined versus 100 g/m² for Z100 — roughly 2.5 times more corrosion protection. Heavier coatings are recommended for outdoor use and coastal areas.
Do you supply galvanized pipe with thread and coupling?
Yes. Threading, couplings and sockets are done on our finishing line; plain-end pipes for welding or grooved mechanical couplings are also available.
What certificates are shipped with each delivery?
EN 10204 3.1 mill certificate with heat numbers, certificate of origin (form ST-1 for duty-free EAEU import), commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading. Independent inspection by SGS, BV or TUV is arranged on request.
Can I order a trial batch before a full container?
Yes. Sample pieces or a trial batch can be delivered so your quality department can test the material. Sample costs are credited against the first order for regular customers.
