Grades, Standards and Applications
Stainless steel is supplied to ASTM A240 (sheet and coil), ASTM A312/A554 (pipe), ASTM A276 (bar) and EN 10088, in grades 304/304L and 316/316L, with 321 and 430 available on request. 304/304L is the general-purpose austenitic grade for food processing, chemical equipment and architecture; 316/316L adds molybdenum for resistance to chlorides, making it the standard for marine, coastal and desalination environments. For the Russian market we prepare certificates per GOST 5632 (steel grades 08X18H10, 08X17H13M2T – the local equivalents of 304 and 316), so the batch is accepted without additional testing. Finishes 2B, BA, No.1 and mirror polish are available, and we supply sheet, coil, pipe, round bar, angle and flat bar from one source.
Manufacturing Process
Stainless steel sheet, coil, pipe and bar are produced by partner mills using electric arc furnace melting, AOD refining and continuous casting, followed by hot rolling, annealing and pickling. Cold-rolled sheet and coil are rolled to thicknesses from 0.3 to 8.0 mm with 2B, BA or No.1 finishes: 2B (bright annealed, rolled) is the standard finish for food, chemical and architectural applications, BA (bright annealed) gives a mirror-like surface, and No.1 (hot-rolled, annealed and pickled) is used where surface finish is secondary. Stainless pipe is produced seamless or welded (TIG with autogenous or filler weld) in 304/304L and 316/316L, with 180/320 grit polish on request. Round bar is supplied in solution-annealed condition with turned or peeled surface. Every batch is tested for chemical composition and mechanical properties, with the MTC per EN 10204 3.1 including the corrosion resistance verification the application requires.
Applications
- Food processing and beverage equipment
- Chemical and pharmaceutical plants
- Architecture and interior design
- Water treatment and desalination
- Storage tanks and heat exchangers
Applications in Russia and Central Asia
Stainless steel is the material of hygiene and corrosion resistance. Food and beverage plants across the region – dairies, breweries, meat processing and canning – use 304 sheet and pipe for process equipment, tanks and piping, where the smooth 2B surface meets sanitary requirements. Chemical and pharmaceutical plants specify 316L for corrosive media. Water treatment and desalination projects on the Caspian and Black Sea coasts use 316L for its chloride resistance. Architecture and interior design use stainless for facades, handrails and fittings. The oil and gas industry uses stainless pipe and fittings for offshore and sour-service applications. With the GOST 5632 grade mapping, Russian fabricators can substitute imported 304/316 directly in projects designed to domestic standards.
Quality Control and Testing
Every production stage at the Sino East Steel plant is controlled under an ISO 9001:2015 quality management system. Depending on the product, each batch is tested for chemical composition and mechanical properties (yield strength, tensile strength, elongation), dimensional accuracy, surface quality and, where applicable, hydrostatic pressure, weld seam integrity, zinc coating thickness and paint adhesion. All testing is performed in our laboratory and, when the project requires, witnessed by independent inspectors from SGS, Bureau Veritas or TUV Rheinland. Each shipment is accompanied by a Mill Test Certificate (MTC) per EN 10204 3.1 with heat numbers, so every tonne can be traced back to its production date, heat and chemical analysis. This documentation is prepared in a form accepted by customs authorities in Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Belarus, and can be adapted to GOST-based reporting when the buyer’s quality department requires it.
Documents and Compliance for Russia and the EAEU
All goods are supplied with a complete export documentation set prepared for smooth customs clearance in the Russian Federation and the Eurasian Economic Union: Mill Test Certificate (MTC) per EN 10204 3.1 with heat numbers and chemical analysis, Certificate of Origin form ST-1 (which qualifies for duty-free import within the EAEU), commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading or railway consignment note. Where the project is subject to the EAEU Technical Regulations, we support the EAC certification process and provide the technical passport, test reports and conformity documentation required by the importing party. For products supplied against Russian design standards we prepare documentation referencing the relevant GOST equivalents (for example GOST 3262 for galvanized pipe, GOST 8732 for seamless pipe, GOST 30245 for hollow sections), so your quality department and the customs broker receive everything on the day the vessel or train arrives.
Logistics to Russia and Central Asia
Sea freight from Tianjin and Xingang ports to St. Petersburg, Novorossiysk, Vladivostok and the Baltic ports takes 30-45 days, with container and break-bulk options for project volumes. For Central Asia we ship container rail trains via the Dostyk and Khorgos border crossings to Almaty, Astana, Tashkent, Samarkand, Bishkek, Osh, Dushanbe and Ashgabat in 25-40 days. We quote on FOB Tianjin/Xingang, CFR, CIF, or DAP terms to your warehouse, consolidate several product lines in one container to reduce the freight cost per tonne, and agree the shipment schedule with your project calendar. A Russian-speaking sales team follows your order from specification to customs clearance, prepares the transit documentation for rail corridors, and coordinates with your forwarding agent at the destination. For regular buyers we offer scheduled programs with fixed prices for the contract period, protecting your project budget from market volatility.
Packaging and Loading
Stainless sheet is packed in bundles with protective interleaving paper and steel strapping, coils on pallets with waterproof wrapping, and pipe in bundles with end caps. BA and mirror finishes are covered with protective film to prevent scratches. Each package carries a label with the grade, finish, dimensions and heat number. The documentation – MTC per EN 10204 3.1 with GOST 5632 cross-reference, ST-1 certificate, invoice and packing list – is prepared for customs clearance.
The Stainless Market in Russia and Central Asia
Russia is the largest stainless steel consumer in the region, with demand from food processing, chemical industry, construction and oil and gas. The food industry’s modernization program drives consumption of 304 sheet and pipe, while chemical and petrochemical projects specify 316L. Kazakhstan’s oil and gas sector and Uzbekistan’s expanding food industry add steady demand. Because domestic stainless production is limited, the market relies on imports, and Chinese mills supply a significant share of sheet, coil and pipe. Sino East Steel supplies stainless products with the certification and grade mapping that Russian fabricators require, and consolidates several grades and forms in one shipment to reduce freight cost.
How to Choose the Right Stainless Steel
Choose the grade by the corrosive environment: 304/304L for food, general chemical and architectural use; 316/316L for marine, coastal, chloride and desalination service. Select the finish by the application: 2B for process equipment and tanks, BA for decorative and mirror applications, No.1 for heavy fabrications. Confirm whether the pipe needs to be seamless or welded, and the surface polish (180/320 grit) for hygienic lines. For Russian projects confirm the GOST 5632 grade (08X18H10 for 304, 08X17H13M2T for 316) with your design documentation. Verify the MTC includes the chemical composition, mechanical properties and, for food contact, the required surface quality certificate.
