Grades, Standards and GOST Equivalents

Sheet and plate are supplied to ASTM A36, A572 (Gr.50/60/65), A516 (pressure vessel), EN 10025 (S235JR-S355JR), ASTM A131 (shipbuilding), GOST 14637 (St3) and GOST 19281 (09G2S). For the Russian market 09G2S is the standard structural steel for welded structures operating at low temperatures, and St3 covers general construction. We prepare certificates cross-referencing the international grade with the GOST equivalent. Plate thicknesses from 3 to 80 mm in widths to 3 m and lengths to 12 m, chequered plate, and pickled and oiled sheet from 1.5 to 6 mm complete the range. Pressure vessel plate (A516 Gr.60/70) is supplied with impact testing and complete material certificates for boiler and tank fabrication.

Manufacturing Process

Hot-rolled steel sheet and plate are produced by partner mills on hot strip mills and plate mills: slabs are reheated to 1,200+ C, rolled in a roughing and finishing train to the required thickness, cooled on a controlled cooling table and coiled or cut to plate. The material is supplied in as-rolled or normalized condition, with controlled chemistry and mechanical properties per the standard. We offer hot-rolled coil and sheet from 1.5 to 80 mm thickness, including pickled and oiled sheet with a clean scale-free surface for stamping and laser cutting. Cut-to-length service produces plates up to 3 m wide and 12 m long, and chequered (tread) plate is available for floors and ramps. Each batch is tested for chemical composition, yield and tensile strength, elongation and, for structural grades, impact toughness at low temperature – the property that Russian design codes require.

Applications

  • Structural fabrication and welding
  • Shipbuilding and offshore structures
  • Storage tanks and pressure vessels
  • Machinery and equipment frames
  • Bridges and infrastructure

Applications in Russia and Central Asia

Steel plate and sheet are fundamental to the regional economy. Structural steel fabricators use S355 and 09G2S plate for building frames, bridges and industrial equipment, where low-temperature toughness is mandatory for Siberian and Ural projects. Shipyards on the Baltic, Black Sea and Caspian coasts use certified shipbuilding plate (A131 AH36/DH36) with class society documentation. Tank and vessel fabricators specify A516 for pressure vessels and storage tanks. The construction machinery industry uses A572 high-strength plate to reduce weight. Chequered plate covers floors, ramps and platforms in factories and transport. Pickled and oiled sheet feeds stamping and laser-cutting shops. The combination of grade range, sizes and certification makes direct mill supply valuable to fabricators across the EAEU.

Quality Control and Testing

Every production stage at the Sino East Steel plant is controlled under an ISO 9001:2015 quality management system. Depending on the product, each batch is tested for chemical composition and mechanical properties (yield strength, tensile strength, elongation), dimensional accuracy, surface quality and, where applicable, hydrostatic pressure, weld seam integrity, zinc coating thickness and paint adhesion. All testing is performed in our laboratory and, when the project requires, witnessed by independent inspectors from SGS, Bureau Veritas or TUV Rheinland. Each shipment is accompanied by a Mill Test Certificate (MTC) per EN 10204 3.1 with heat numbers, so every tonne can be traced back to its production date, heat and chemical analysis. This documentation is prepared in a form accepted by customs authorities in Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Belarus, and can be adapted to GOST-based reporting when the buyer’s quality department requires it.

Documents and Compliance for Russia and the EAEU

All goods are supplied with a complete export documentation set prepared for smooth customs clearance in the Russian Federation and the Eurasian Economic Union: Mill Test Certificate (MTC) per EN 10204 3.1 with heat numbers and chemical analysis, Certificate of Origin form ST-1 (which qualifies for duty-free import within the EAEU), commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading or railway consignment note. Where the project is subject to the EAEU Technical Regulations, we support the EAC certification process and provide the technical passport, test reports and conformity documentation required by the importing party. For products supplied against Russian design standards we prepare documentation referencing the relevant GOST equivalents (for example GOST 3262 for galvanized pipe, GOST 8732 for seamless pipe, GOST 30245 for hollow sections), so your quality department and the customs broker receive everything on the day the vessel or train arrives.

Logistics to Russia and Central Asia

Sea freight from Tianjin and Xingang ports to St. Petersburg, Novorossiysk, Vladivostok and the Baltic ports takes 30-45 days, with container and break-bulk options for project volumes. For Central Asia we ship container rail trains via the Dostyk and Khorgos border crossings to Almaty, Astana, Tashkent, Samarkand, Bishkek, Osh, Dushanbe and Ashgabat in 25-40 days. We quote on FOB Tianjin/Xingang, CFR, CIF, or DAP terms to your warehouse, consolidate several product lines in one container to reduce the freight cost per tonne, and agree the shipment schedule with your project calendar. A Russian-speaking sales team follows your order from specification to customs clearance, prepares the transit documentation for rail corridors, and coordinates with your forwarding agent at the destination. For regular buyers we offer scheduled programs with fixed prices for the contract period, protecting your project budget from market volatility.

Packaging and Loading

Plate is packed in steel-strapped bundles with wooden separators, labeled with the standard, grade, dimensions and heat number. Sheets are stacked and strapped on pallets or in bundles with protective wrapping. Plates up to 12 m ship in flat racks or open-top containers with lashing; containers are loaded with a calculated weight distribution. Each bundle carries a label matching the MTC, and the documentation – MTC per EN 10204 3.1 with GOST cross-reference, ST-1 certificate, invoice and packing list – is prepared for customs clearance at the destination.

The Plate and Sheet Market in Russia and Central Asia

Russia is among the largest markets for heavy plate in the world, consuming millions of tonnes for shipbuilding, pipe production, construction machinery and infrastructure. Kazakhstan’s oil and gas projects require pressure vessel plate, and Uzbekistan’s expanding industrial base consumes structural plate for equipment and buildings. Because domestic plate mills focus on standard grades and sizes, the market for 09G2S, high-strength and pressure vessel grades in specific dimensions is partly served by imports. Sino East Steel supplies plate and sheet directly to fabricators, shipyards and tank builders across the EAEU, with the certification (including RMRS, DNV or ABS class documentation on request) that regulated industries require.

How to Choose the Right Steel Plate

Select the grade by the design temperature and loading: S235JR/A36 for general construction, S355 or A572 Gr.50 for higher strength with lower weight, and 09G2S for welded structures operating at low temperatures. For pressure vessels and boilers use A516 Gr.60/70 with the required impact testing. For shipbuilding specify the class grade (A, AH36, DH36) and the class society documentation. Choose the thickness and width by the fabrication process, and confirm whether normalized delivery is required for thick plates. For laser cutting and stamping, pickled and oiled sheet gives a clean surface. Confirm the certificate format – we supply MTC per EN 10204 3.1 with GOST 19281 cross-reference – with your design institute before ordering.

Why Buy Steel Plate Direct from the Factory

Direct supply from Sino East Steel gives fabricators access to the full grade range – structural, high-strength, pressure vessel, shipbuilding – from one source, with the certification that each application requires. Factory-direct pricing and consolidated shipments reduce landed costs, and our documentation team prepares GOST cross-referenced MTCs and class certificates for the regulated industries. For project buyers we support fixed-price contracts and scheduled deliveries, protecting budgets in a volatile plate market.
